This piece was done after watching Dionne Woods of the Turquoise Iris paint a china cabinet cobalt blue. She had an amazing style. Up to this point, most of what I painted was white with a dark wax. Watching her made my heart sing! Such bold color! A random gold wash! Black wax! I had to try this.

My opportunity came when a neighbor was throwing out this piece of furniture. Its leg was broken, random screws were used as pins for the old hinges. She had old dusty drapes hanging in her, and the finish looked dingy. I thought, this is the perfect piece, begging to be cobalt blue!

My husband kindly fixed her leg, we replaced her hinges. Her old knobs on the door were broken, so I used cobalt blue knobs from the 1930s. Then I painted, using Blue Iris, Monet’s Garden, Salty Kiss, Water Lily, Kissing Booth, Cake Batter, and Golden Ticket.
